Naci\u00f3 en el a\u00f1o 1930, se populariz\u00f3 globalmente a partir de los 80 y hoy d\u00eda no solo contin\u00faa vigente, sino que constituye una de las principales estrategias log\u00edsticas, especialmente en los servicios de env\u00edo de palets, utilizada por todo tipo de industrias y para casi cualquier producto.<br \/>El cross docking aport\u00f3 como novedad una nueva fase intermedia en la cadena log\u00edstica, lo que constituy\u00f3 una gran innovaci\u00f3n en la log\u00edstica. En lugar de transportar las mercanc\u00edas de A a B directamente, los productos procedentes de diferentes clientes se descargan en un centro y se almacenan temporalmente, en general unas pocas horas.<\/p><p>Cuando los palets o paquetes que comparten un mismo destino alcanzan un volumen suficiente, se carga la mercanc\u00eda en el cami\u00f3n para completar la ruta.<br \/>Es cierto que el cross docking ralentizaba los plazos de entrega con respecto al transporte directo, pero optimizaba las rutas y ofrec\u00eda una soluci\u00f3n m\u00e1s econ\u00f3mica en los env\u00edos. Esta innovaci\u00f3n log\u00edstica ha resultado ser enormemente efectiva. \u00bfC\u00f3mo es posible que la competitividad log\u00edstica de muchas industrias contin\u00fae dependiendo de una estrategia de hace casi un siglo?<br \/>Es evidente que el cross docking ha ido evolucionando a lo largo de las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas, que se han ido incorporando soluciones que optimizaban diferentes procesos del transporte o el almacenamiento, pero como estrategia se ha mantenido pr\u00e1cticamente intacta, convirtiendo esta fase intermedia de almacenamiento en un est\u00e1ndar en el
