Alcampo’s new logistics platform in Illescas starts operations
It has begun distributing to the hotel and catering industry with electric trucks in the cities of Bilbao, San Sebastián and Vitoria.
Alcampo has started operating from its new logistics platform of almost 100,000 square metres built by GLP in the town of Illescas in Toledo and managed by ID Logistics.
After a first start-up phase, the new platform located in GLP Magna Park Tauro, is expected to be fully operational by mid-September to serve foodstuffs to more than 200 shops, as well as the future warehouse for online commerce.
The facility will replace the platforms in Alcalá de Henares and the fresh food platform in Valdemoro, which will remain operational until full integration.
The Illescas platform will include a belt sorter with a capacity of 12,000 boxes per hour, which will double the current box movement capacity and AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robots) technology to move pallets.
The management will be carried out by professionals from ID Logistics, the same specialist company that manages the warehouses in Alcalá de Henares and Valdemoro, with an estimated workforce of 600 people. In fact, ID Logistics, in partnership with Alcampo, has been in charge of designing and implementing the logistics processes and automations of this new centre.
