Digital product passport: the European supply chain enters the era of digital trust
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) will progressively transform the way products, information and responsibilities flow throughout the European supply chain.
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) will progressively transform how products, information, and responsibilities flow throughout the European supply chain. It is not just a new regulatory compliance requirement: it represents a key element in building a supply chain where the origin, characteristics, sustainability, and life cycle of products are increasingly accessible, interoperable, and verifiable. Introduced under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, the Digital Product Passport gives physical products a genuine digital identity, connecting information that is currently scattered across documents, business systems, and various supply chain stakeholders. For companies, preparing for the DPP therefore means addressing not only a regulatory change but also a transformation in data management and exchange throughout the supply chain. For Digitalhub, part of the Leviahub family, the Digital Product Passport represents a key piece of a broader transformation, in which the supply chain, digital identity, regulatory compliance, interoperability, and digital trust are converging. This is the area in which we work every day: the digitization of document processes, electronic signatures, digital preservation in compliance with regulations, and electronic invoicing are the technological and organizational foundations upon which a supply chain capable of generating verifiable digital evidence is built—and on these foundations, we are preparing today for the supply chain needs of tomorrow, with a vision that also takes into account the evolution of trust services and the path toward the QTSP world.
