Logistics technology trends to watch out for
Process automation, blockchain, AI and ML, IoT and TMS are the top trends that logistics organisations should take advantage of this year, says DispatchTrack.
Digital technology adoption accelerated between 2020 and 2022 as the Covid-19 pandemic continued to influence everything from e-commerce to the global supply chain, and thus the logistics industry also had to adapt quickly.
In this exercise, digitisation and last-mile software are proving to be efficient tools for B2B delivery operations, B2C businesses, carriers, shippers, etc., says Felipe Porter, vice president of Latam Sales at DispatchTrack. He points to five logistics technology trends that will shape the industry in 2023 and beyond.
- Process automation: The pandemic accelerated the need for automation, as companies in all industries continue to look for ways to minimise face-to-face interactions. Automation in distribution centres or warehouses ranges from process automation to physical automation. Some common warehouse automation can include, for example, digitisation of manual processes, pick-by-light systems with operators using barcodes for scanning and LED lights that indicate the quantity of items to pick and their destination, and autonomous mobile robots working within warehouses.
